This is a guest post on one of my favorite subjects - coffee!

If you are one of the billions of coffee lovers on the planet, this article is for you. In recent months, coffee has been showing up in blogs everywhere. Whether you just love the different varieties of the brew or you are jumping on the Bulletproof coffee bandwagon, there is no doubt that coffee remains the most popular beverage in the world.

As we began looking into the latest coffee craze, we were amazed to find out that coffee shows up time and time again as being a very healthy drink. Below, we are going to share a few of these findings with you.

Coffee is healthy
  • Coffee is a major source of antioxidants. There are about 1,000 antioxidants in the unprocessed coffee beans. In the roasting process, it picks up hundreds more. It may surprise you to learn that high-quality coffee has more antioxidants than green tea.
  • Studies show that drinking 3-5 cups of coffee per day can boost brain activity. Coffee can help with short term memory. Further, coffee drinkers show a 65% decrease in the risk of development of Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia.
  • Drinking 4 or more cups of coffee per day decreases the risk of development of endometrial cancer. Patients also have a 25% lower chance of other cancers such as cancer of the liver, colon, breasts, and rectal cancer.
  • Coffee lowers the chance of cirrhosis of the liver that is the result of alcohol abuse.

Buying coffee

Many people use freshly grown herbs in their tea. But, the flavor of coffee can be enhanced with your homegrown herbs too. Try adding Jasmine to your herb garden. It grows in impressive vines that put off a wonderful aroma. Drop a few Jasmine leaves into your brew or coffee press for a wonderful flavor. Try rubbing fresh Lemon Thyme, Rosemary or Lavender around the rim of your hot coffee mug. The flavor is impressive and healthy. Experiment with the coffee and herbs. Try sweetening it with honey and if you are going to use cream, use grass-fed creams and milk, for a wonderful flavor that is good for your body.

To get the most benefit from the wonders of coffee, you must buy high-quality coffee. You need coffee that is fresh and correctly grown and processed. As soon as coffee is ground, it begins to lose its flavor and benefits. Purchase your coffee from a local coffee roaster. If there are no local roasters in your area, consider buying your coffee online.

Regardless of the type of coffee you desire, you want coffee that is not roasted until it is ordered. You do not want to buy coffee that has been roasted and then sent to the stores or distribution centers. This is why you stay away from the coffee aisles in the stores. The exception is Whole Foods and other stores that are roasted in small batches and sent out more often. Once you find freshly roasted coffee, do not ground it until the week you are going to use it.

If you follow these tips, you will enjoy the wonders of this healthy drink and a whole new world of coffee flavors.
