Uncorked Ventures Review - Quality Wine Club and Wine Gift Baskets
I've never been much of a wine connoisseur, but maybe it's because I hadn't found the right bottle yet! Until now that is.
I had the opportunity to review a couple of bottles of wine from Uncorked Ventures. The business was inspired after a family vacation to South America. Two brothers-in-law, Matt Krause and Mark Aselstine discovered a shared passion for wine "as well as their desire for something different, something better." Their wines come from California, Washington, and Oregon, and come from small wine makers that are not regularly available to consumers. Their established relationships in wine country "grants [them] access to the high quality, limited production wines [their] customers desire." (Quotes directly from Uncorked Ventures website.
I tried two different bottles - Chatom Semillon 2012 and Lennox Vineyards Pinot Noir. I received some fascinating information about the wineries that make each of these bottles and what to expect in terms of flavors and notes in the wine. I want to share some of that with you! I particularly enjoyed the narratives included because it's evident that they have travelled to these vineyards and experienced the wine first hand.
The Lennox Vineyards Pinot Noir
"Lennox sits at he souther reaches of the Russian River Valley, just outside of the liberal way station of Sebastopol, where locals in the Bay Area say that the Berkeley Hippies of the '60's chose to retire...What sticks out most about this vineyard is that it is incredibly low in terms of production per acre...Generally speaking, lower levels of production, leads to more concentrated flavors and I think that's evident in these wines."
I highly recommend you read the full blog post on Uncorked Ventures for the experience Mark Aselstine had at Lennox Vineyards. This will give you a complete idea of what the winery is like, which adds personality to an already flavorful bottle of wine. Read the full Lennox Vineyard experience by clicking here.
When I tried this bottle, I was very impressed. The information sent with the bottle described the chocolate and cherry notes in the wine and I definitely noticed them. This was just a quality bottle of wine and made me realize I had so much to learn about the experience of selecting wines and finding just the right ones. I felt like I was opened up to a whole new world!
Chatom Semillon 2012
The Chatom Vineyards is located in the "eastern reaches of California...From interesting plantings like this Semllon...or the Touriga that we featured a couple of years back, Chatom has long been at hte forefront of finding ways to farm effectively in most vintages, while taking the time and spending the efforts to push the envelope a bit.
"There is a real crispness to this wine that isn't always readily apparent from the region. Notes of cream and a generally pleasing minerality."
When I drink wine, I usually prefer red as I don't find white wines as pleasing. This was an exception to that rule for me. The taste of the wine was first and foremost refreshing, but also provided a lot of flavoring and gently sweet, in my opinion.
If you are a wine connoisseur, or you have no clue on how to be a wine connoisseur (like me), Uncorked Ventures is a fantastic starting point. These guys know their wine and have excellent taste. If you need to buy a bottle of wine for a friend as a gift or just want one for yourself, you must browse their site and see what you can find.
Also, Uncorked Ventures offers a Wine Club subscription. For some of you, it may be a bit pricey, as the cheapest rate if $40/shipment of wine (and you receive 2 bottles), but the choice of wine you will receive is very worth it. They also offer higher end gift baskets and if you want to impress someone, you should purchase from them.
If you can't purchase wine quite yet from Uncorked Ventures, I highly recommend simply subscribing to their blog and reading their experiences throughout wine country (which INCLUDES a recent visit to Napa after the earthquake!)
I am very grateful for the opportunity to do this review and look forward to what is to come!
(I received a complimentary two bottles of wine in exchange for my honest review).
